Speakers in the human chain protested the untruthful and misleading interview with BBC Bangla radio given by the WB country Director. Speakers suspect WB will do harmful activities to mass people of Bangladesh, that's why they are demanding Immunity. WB would like to pass the bill killing basic rights of the countrymen.

Speakers demand the government should look into the countrymen's interest rather than giving undue privilege to a business organization like World Bank.

Aminur Rasul, Md. Abul Hosain Foku, Advocate Mizanur Rahman Aapel, Zakir Hosain Tushar Rehman, Imam Uddin, Nurul Anwar, Lovely Yasmin and Zahid Iqbal were among the speakers

>> Statement on WB Immunity declared from the "Asia Pacific people's convention on Food Soverignty" dated 27 November 2004, Dhaka, Bangladesh

We the participants of Asia Pacific people's convention on Food Soverignty, 520 participants from 24 countries, as well around 30 from 13 countries across the globe who joined us in solidarity met in Osmani Memorial Auditorium, Dhaka, Bangladesh from 25-27 December, hereby

Condemn the World Bank management, who are facing Bangladesh Government to have such "Institutional Immunity". Institution like World Bank now forcing countries like Bangladesh to grace them with complete legal immunity from the destruction and damage they cause to the people.

Participants request the government of Bangladesh not to provide such immunity, which will create a bad precedence to other developing countries and it is not only the World Bank or other IFIs, even the big foreign companies will try to force governments for such a immunity.

We express our solidarity to the people of Bangladesh against crime commited by IFI's and now seeking refuge behind legal immunity. We are concerned that institutions like World Bank now forcing countries like Bangladesh to grace them complete.
