Media’s freedom, democracy and good governance are as inseparable as the human rights. The right to information is the key to all other rights.As a Bangladeshi citizen and also our society, continually we face various problems like lack of governance, lack of transparency, corruption; violation of human rights, democracy and its practices. Economically 40% people cannot get minimum calories, education facilities, health and nutrition supports and ultimately they are in the group of hardcore poor. The main causes of our development are barrier of access to information and freedom of express.

Supro Claimed to Government from the Human Chain on the International Literacy Day-2011
SUPRO claimed to the Government to ensure 100% Literacy throughout the country by 2015 at the International Literacy Day 2011. Following the theme of the Day ‘Literacy and Peace’ SUPRO organized a National Level Human Chain at 11:00 on September 8, 2011 infront of the National Museum, Shahbag. Dhaka. Speakers claimed to recognize education as fundamental rights to meet the Millennium Development Goal by 2015. They urged to increase the budgetory allocation especially for primary and adult literacy formulating effective plan to achieve optimum results.

Members of Parliament (MPs) demand access into formulation and implementation of National Budget
National budget declared by the government in a befitting manner which represents the country’s statistical computation of one year’s revenue and development pictures against its income and expenditures within and outside the country. Planning, formulation and implementation of national budget is centralized where there has no participation of people’s elected representative like MPs in the total process. Since 2003, SUPRO has been campaigning to ensure participation of mass people through parliament members in budget making process so that MPs can incorporate demands of their constituency for a sustainable pro-poor budget and balanced regional development.

Formulate Pro-poor and Decentralized Budget incorporating demands of under-privileged communities of the society
A national budget is a crucial legal and policy document that outlines government’s economic policies, revenue and expenditure motivations and expectations. For a 12-month period, the national budget entails the plan for the functioning of the economy. It follows that the national budget is of interest to everyone who resides in the country as it has implications for all. But in reality, it was found that demands and considerations of all sections of the society were not reflected in budget documents of Bangladesh.

Democracy is prerequisite for sustainable development of a country. To maintain an effective democracy free flow of information is necessary. Journalist and press play an active role to provide news and information to the society. But in least developed countries or where governance institutions are weak, journalists suffered a lot sometimes at the cost of their lives collect news and information. In its various campaign and advocacy, SUPRO integrate news and information of press. On the other hand, journalists always extend their cooperation for dissemination of the campaign information and for effective advocacy.
National Seminar on Findings of Social Audit on Health and Education situation in Bangladesh
Sushasoner Jonny Procharavizan-SUPRO organized a national level seminar on 19 April, 2011 at CIRDAP Auditorium, Dhaka on the Findings of Social Audit of 20 districts on Health and Education Situation in Bangladesh. Representatives of 45 networking districts of SUPRO, civil society organizations, Members of Parliament, Policy makers, Politicians, Journalists and other related stakeholders participated in the seminar where SUPRO national council member Madhab Chandra Dutta was as moderator and Shamima Akter Moonmoon delivered welcome speech. Uma Chowdhury, Director SUPRO gave the vote of thanks to all the participants in the seminar.

Highlighting the theme of the Day ‘Equal Access to Education, Training and Science & Technology: Pathway to decent work for Women” all speakers came into the point that economic development, poverty reduction and children & family development, progressive state of the country certainly depends on women empowerment.
