To recognize education as fundamental rights, to ensure 100% literacy by 2015,to increase the budgetary allocation especially for primary and adult literacy, to reduce drop out rate from primary education and to ensure mid-day meal for the students, to ensure the involvement of local government with primary and non-formal primary education, to top all kinds of commercialization from education sector, to take necessary action to implement the Education Policy immediately are the main grassroots demands raised by SUPRO in the National Seminar held on celebrating International Literacy Day 2012 at CIRDAP Auditorium on 8 September.
World Bank has taken its position against mass people by withdrawing Padma Bidge Loan

To protest against the unjust debt and foreign aid and undue interference of International Financial Institutions (IFIs) like WB, IMF and ADB, Sushasoner Jonny Pracharavizan -SUPRO organized a Human Chain on 3 July, 2012 in front of National Press Club. Dhaka Campaign Group and other like-minded organizations expressed their solidarity in the human chain. Criticizing WB’s
recent decision to withdraw padma bridge loan, speakers told that World Bank is
itself a non-transparent and autocratic organization. They also told
World Bank has ultimately taken its position against mass people rather
than corruption by declaring withdrawn of loan for Padma Bridge.

Allocation in Essential Services including Agriculture is not Satisfactory
Speakers said in post-budget consultation
The Finance minister, in his budget speech, has promised a lot of things in the essential services sector but those were not reflected in the allocations. The budget has mainly served the interest of the rich and businessmen. Indirect tax has been increased which will negatively affect the lives of the poor people. Provision has been made to whiten black money which is tantamount to institutionalising corruption. By allocating low budget in the agriculture and agriculture subsidy, the government has, in way, breached its own electoral promise. These are frustrating- speakers said in a post-budget discussion organized by SUPRO, today, 14 June 2012 at the CIRDAP Auditorium, Dhaka. They added- Bureaucratic complication in budget implementation has to be reduced and inter-ministry coordination has to be increased.
SUPRO Shares its budget views with media on a Press Conference
SUPRO wants budget pro-poor, decentralize and participatory. To ensure people participation, budget process must be reformed. Government must take initiative for district budget implementation. VAT should be reduced and direct tax should be extended progressively. Black money should be stop.
Speakers from SUPRO urged on the above mention issues and expected those to be considered on national budget in a press meet today (4/6/12) at Conference Lounge of National Press Club.

Lobby Meeting with MPs on Upcoming National Budget 2012-13
SUPRO organized Dinner Meeting with Members of Parliament to share its budget demands from grassroots held on 3 June 2012 at Hotel Ruposhi Bangla, Dhaka, Bangladesh. 13 MPs from different constituencies were attended the dinner meeting where Honorable Deputy Speaker of National Parliament Col. Shawkat Ali was as the Chief Guest.On the occasion SUPRO representatives and the MPs got together and turned the meeting into an interactive discussion with their opinion and commitment on the budgetary issues raised by SUPRO. The meeting was started by welcome speech of M A Quader, General Secretary of SUPRO. He also moderated the meeting.

SUPRO demands Decentralized, Pro-poor and Participatory Budget
The national budget is a reflection of government priority and policies. SUPRO believes that establishment of domestic ownership over development policies will be one of the most important prerequisites for successful implementation of pro-poor policy reforms and good governance in the context of Bangladesh. Through proactive engagement of the civil society and stakeholders in the process of policy design and implementation could pay high dividends in terms of successfully addressing the challenges of eliminating the poverty and inequality in Bangladesh.

A free press provides a window through which all other abuses of fundamental rights can be revealed. Journalist and press play an active role to provide news and information to the society. But in least developed countries or where governance institutions are weak, journalists suffered a lot, sometimes at the cost of their lives collect news and information. In its various campaign and advocacy, SUPRO integrate news and information of press. On the other hand, journalists always extend their cooperation for dissemination of the campaign information and for effective advocacy.

SUPRO Human Chain on World Health Day 2012
“Government has to take the main responsibility of ensuring healthcare for all”, speakers demanded that in a SUPRO organized human chain. The human chain was organized to mark the World Health Day, 7 April 2012, at 11.00 am in front of National Museum at Shahbag, Dhaka. SUPRO observed the day as part of its ongoing campaign for essential services. Along with SUPRO, its alliance members of Dhaka Campaign Group also participated in the event. This year’s theme is “Good Health adds life to years”. It focused on the importance of good health of the elderly people and to their healthcare needs.

National Consultation on Social Audit Report 2011 on Situation of Primary Education and Health Services
The speakers in a seminar expressed that the government should improve the quality and efficiency of service delivery in education and health sectors and made some recommendations on that regard. SUPRO organized the sharing seminar to present the findings of Social Audit on government primary education and health services today, 20 March 2012 in the VIP Lounge of the national Press Club. The Social Audit was conducted in 20 districts to understand the quality and efficiency of service delivery, to identify gaps and to elicit recommendations for improvement of services.
