Government
Must Act to Ensure Accountability and Social
Responsibilities of the Multi National Companies
Involved in Mobile Phone and Gas Sector.

Today
speakers in a seminar organized by SUPRO demand
accountability and social responsibility of the multi
national companies involved in mobile phone and gas
sector. Chairman, parliamentary standing committee on
post and telecommunication GM Fazlul Haque MP (Member of
Parliament), Engineer Mohammed Sahidullah Chairman –
National Oil and Gas Protection Committee and Dr. Abdur
Razzak MP of Awami League and other speak of the
seminar. They demanded mobile phone call charge
reduction in the level to what is the rate exist in
other SAARC countries, they also demand the damage claim
from Unicol and Niko gas companies. Brief

Mass Procession in the
City Street on the eve of Global Week of Action.
NO to the
Blanket Liberalization and YES to the People’s Right to
Livelihood.
Dhaka 10th April 2005.
Today
thousand of people including activists, farmers, grament
workers, labor and student paraded the main streets of
the city as a starting of week long program to
protest against trade injustice and to say no the
blanket liberalization / privatization and to say yes to
the people’s right to livelihood. Eleven organizations
UBINIG, SUPRO, Acota Trade Forum, Lokoj, CDP, Karmajibi
Nari, Swadin Bangla Sramik Federation, Srama Bikash
Kendra, Voice, COAST, Pradwip and Kormokutir have
participated in the procession.

Press Conference to Brief on Global Week of Action.
Resist
Unfair Trade and their Regimes and Unite for the People
Livelihood and for Trade Justice.

A
press conference held here in national press club to
breif the programs and other detail for the global week
of action which to be observed in countrywide during the
period of 10 to 16th April 2005. Activist
leaders from UBINIG, SUPRO, Acota Trade Fair, CDP, Lokoj,
Karmajibi Nari, Swadin Bangla Sramik Federation, Voice
and Noyakrishi Andolon have participated in the session.
On behalf of the group Farida Akhter read out the joint
statement and Reza Chowdhury, Rahi and Shireen Akhter
response to the different question of the press. Reza
Chowdhury of SUPRO gave examples on different trade
imbalance of the country due to the import
liberalization, creating unemployment and sufferings of
the farmers.
