Act now for South Asian mindset; Demand a role from our SAARC leaders.

 Dhaka 17th March 2007. Today in Dhaka Reporters Unity SUPRO has launched a campaign media pack to the journalist. The pack has eight papers with gist analytical information and pro poor demand from the civil society for the SAARC leader. The pack has released both in English and Bengali, these are all one page each for eight issues.

Titles of those papers are (i) South Asia: Way Beyond 2015… Reshaping MDG to SDG, (ii) Climate Change: South Asian Leaders Should Act Now, (iii) GMO free South Asia: People’s demand for securing food sovereignty, (iv) Foreign Direct Investment: Foreign Remittance is Not for Profit Remittance, (v) SAFTA fails if not supporting to LDC’s capability, (vi) Free movement of unskilled and semi skilled workers: SAARC should identify a common position, (vii) Militarization in South Asia: Whose interest? Who pay for it and (viii) Let the civil society to participate and speak at SAARC summit. As civil society groups of Saarc countries represent the aspirations and opinions of their peoples, their voices should be heard in the Saarc summit, opined a group of researchers at a press conference in the city yesterday.

South Asia urged to cut military budget

Researchers at a seminar on Saturday underscored the need for reduction in military budget in South Asia.
    Ahead of the upcoming 14th SAARC Summit, a panel of researchers also said the total military budget was $ 31756.7 million. With this money, poverty of 150 million poor people in South Asia could be eliminated and all children could be sent to school by 2015, they noted.
